Building a home for improvisers who want to train performance art
The Improv Skills Lab started because I noticed that whenever I finished a brilliant course or workshop, I'd feel like I'd progressed but then have nowhere to keep practicing what I'd learnt.
I wanted a place where I could keep building my skills with other like-minded people who were at the same level. Where I could keep the joy or performing while training.
So I setup the the Improv Skills Lab as a space specifically for improvisers at an intermediate level and above. People who were already comfortable with the fundamentals, who wanted to sharpen their stagecraft, character and ensemble work through regular focused practice. Not another course or jam. A place to train in ensemble work and comedy.
The sessions are built around exploration, honest feedback and repetition with the aim of turning our storytelling comedy instincts into reliable skills for stage.
Its a place for deliberate practice and collaboration, with an encouraging atmosphere with enough challenge to nurture and stretch our creative and artistic muscles.
It is still in its early stages as we explore so it is only open to people that have that same mindset

We do not rise to the level of our expectations. We fall to the level of our training
